The"Tomb of Zhang Qian"in Raojiaying,Chenggu,is an important World Cultural Heritage site.It received better protection after being"repaired"by the Northwest United University in 1938.After collecting and organizing newly discovered archival and original materials,it is believed that referring to the work conducted on the tomb at that time as"excavation"is inconsistent with the purpose,process,and accounts of those involved and contemporaneous records.The nature of the"seal clays"unearthed from the tomb should be considered in line with Mr.Chen Zhi's assertion that"they should not be regarded as seal clays"and should revert to Mr.He Shiji's naming of them as"pottery sherds with inscribed characters".
