Local museums are deeply rooted in the history, culture, and experiences of their regions and are closely connected to local communities. However, the narratives of local museums are often dominated by a single discourse that aligns with national macro-narratives,failing to reflect the local values and characteristics they represent.Grounded in Bakhtin's polyphonic theory, this article rethinks the single-narrative discourse model of local museums through examining the examples of the Costume Museum of São Brás de Alportel in Portugal and the Western Hall of Suzhou Museum.By utilizing open dialogue, valuing thinking, and adhering to individual equality, the study explores a polyphonic approach to local museum narratives. It addresses narrative rhetoric, relationship building, and image updating to enhance the richness and diversity of local museum narratives.
