The name"Maogong(Mao Palace)"at the Liangzhou Qin-Han palace site in Chengcheng County,Shaanxi,is closely linked to the construction of the Temple of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty.Based on the surrounding geographical environment and landmark buildings related to the Han Dynasty,as well as the ancient relationship between the terms"temple"(庙)and"appearance"(貌),and through a comprehensive analysis of local gazetteer literature, inscriptions, and field surveys,it is inferred that the name"Maogong"originated after Emperor Xuan of the Western Han Dynasty ordered the construction of temples dedicated to Emperor Wu in various commanderies and kingdoms. The name likely derived from the relative position of the Temple of Emperor Wu to this detached palace. The original Temple of Emperor Wu might have been adjacent to or part of the same palace complex.
