At the center of Cave no.3 of the Bingling Temple stands a Tang-Dynasty stone pagoda, with its base and body still preserved. After an analysis of the pagoda's structure and traces of carved holes on the body, combined with an investigation of historical documents, images, and Buddhist activities at the Bingling Temple, this article suggests that the stone pagoda is a stupa for enshrining Buddhist relics. The base, body, and finial form the complete structure of the pagoda. The holes and grooves on the pagoda are remnants of missing components, including the finial, bell components, railing components, and components of the core chamber. This pagoda is the earliest known single-story stone pagoda modeled after wooden structures from the Tang Dynasty in China. It holds great significance for the study of early Tang-Dynasty architecture.
