A large number of studies have found that folic acid deficiency during pregnancy will increase the incidence of fetal neural tube defects, cognitive development disorders in offspring, etc. Therefore, women of childbearing age have increased their attention and supplementation of folic acid.In recent years, the effects of excessive folic acid intake have attracted extensive attention from scholars in various countries. This paper,by collecting and sorting out relevant literature, discusses the impact of excess folic acid on maternal and infant health, and finds that high dose intake of folic acid is beneficial to the growth and development of the fetus, but will increase the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus. The difference in folic acid dosage is associated with the occurrence of congenital heart defects, neurodevelopmental abnormalities, autism spectrum disorders and immune system diseases in offspring, and the safe dose range is still unclear.
