Objective To analyze the effect of early enteral nutrition treatment on clinical outcome of children in pediatric intensive care unit(PICU).Methods A total of 420 critically ill children who received enteral nutrition treatment in Guangzhou Huadu District Maternal and Child Health Hospital from April 2019 to September 2020 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into three groups according to different PICU entry times, including 24-48 hours for early stage group(140 cases),49-72 hours for late stage group 1(140 cases),and>72 hours for late stage group 2(140 cases). The intestinal barrier function, nutritional indexes, clinical indexes, and complications in the three groups were compared. Results After treatment, the levels of diamine oxidase, endotoxin, and urinary lactulose/mannitol ratio in the early stage group were higher than those in the late stage group 1 and late stage group 2(P<0.05).After treatment, the hemoglobin, serum albumin, serum prealbumin levels, and body mass index in the early stage group were higher than those in the late stage group 1 and late stage group 2(P<0.05).The length of PICU hospitalization and total hospitalization in the early stage group were shorter than those in the late stage group 1 and late stage group 2(P<0.05).The incidence of hypokalemia and hyponatremia in the early stage group was lower than that in the late stage group 1 and late stage group 2(P<0.05).Conclusion Early enteral nutrition treatment can improve the nutritional status of PICU children, improve intestinal barrier function, reduce complications, shorten hospital stay, and promote rehabilitation.
