Ecological,Health Risk Assessment and Prediction of Heavy Metals in Soil of the Water Level Fluctuation Zone of the Xiangxi River
Soil samples from the Xiangxi River water-level-fluctuation zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area were collected in different seasons and at different elevations from 2020 to 2022.The concentration of four heavy metal elements(Cu,Pb,Cd,and Cr)were determined for ecological and health risk assessment. The results of the geo-accumulation index indicated that Cd was the main pollutant element in this area with the pollution level of mild. The other three heavy metal elements were classified as non-polluted.The results of the potential ecological risk index indicated that the overall ecological risk in the study area was mild, while the potential ecological risk index for elemental Cd was a medium-intensity risk in 27%of the soil samples. The results of heavy metal health risk assessment demonstrated that both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks in study area were at acceptable levels, and the carcinogenic risks for children was higher than for adults.A support vector machine(SVM)model was used to quantitative predict the concentration of soil heavy metal based on time series and seasonal factors. In time series-based simulations,SVM provided accurate predictions of the concentration of heavy metal in the upper soil layer. In simulations based on seasonal variations,SVM fitted well for the concentration of heavy metal in both the upper and lower soil layers.
