α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities of Seven Parts from Costus speciosus and GC-MS Analyses of Their Ether Extracts
Seven different parts of fresh Costus speciosus were extracted by ultrasonic extraction with ether and alcohol respectively, and all the samples were tested α-glucosidase inhibitory effect in vitro by pNPG(4-nitrophenyl-beta-d-glucopyranoside)assay.The chemical components of ether extract were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).A total of 125 chemical constituents were detected by GC-MS whose relative contents were determined by peak area normalization method. Results showed that the chemical constituents in each extract significantly differed from others. The bioactivity results showed that the ether extracts of petal, calyxe, and fibrous root presented inhibition of α-glucosidase rate up to 70%,while the ether extract of stem and the alcohol extract of rhizome had the inhibition rate around 50%.In summary, the volatile components in different extracts showed difference, and the ether extracts of petal, calyxe and fibrous root showed relatively strong inhibitory activity ofα-glucosidase in vitro, which can provide a reference for the utilization of the whole plant resource of Costus speciosus.
