A Study on the Impact of Employment Quality on the Fertility Desire for a Second Child among Migrant Population of Childbearing Age
Improving the fertility willingness of the migrant population of childbearing age is an impor-tant way to solve the problem of aging in China.Based on the"cost-effectiveness"theory and using sur-vey data from Nanjing city,a Probit regression model was constructed to empirically analyze the impact of employment quality on the willingness of migrant population of childbearing age to have a second child. The research results show that:(1)the overall desire of migrant population of childbearing age to have a second child is low, with only 38%of the total sample willing to have a second child;(2)The quality of employment has significantly improved the willingness of migrant workers of childbearing age to have a second child, with the"income effect"dominating the willingness of migrant workers of childbearing age to have a second child;(3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that employment quality has a stronger promo-ting effect on the willingness of men,non-elderly parturient women, and migrant populations of child-bearing age with longer migration time to have a second child. It is suggested that the government should vigorously improve the employment quality of the migrant population of childbearing age,so as to increase their willingness to have a second child.
