On the Impact of Digital Economic Development on Environmental Pollution Control in China
As a powerful engine for the high-quality development of China,the digital economy can play a big role in enhancing the precision and efficiency of environmental pollution control.This study used data from 30 provinces,municipalities,and autonomous regions in China from 2013 to 2021 as samples.Based on the evaluation of their digital economic development and environmental pollution,it constructed a two-way fixed-effects model to explore the impact of digital economic development on environmental pollution control in China.The findings are as follows:(1)empirical results indicate a significant negative correlation between the digital economy and the level of environmental pollution,i.e.the development of the digital economy can greatly enhance the level of environmental pollution control;(2)further application of the mediating effect model investigates the mechanism through which digital economic development promotes environmental pollution control,and finds that digital economic development improves environmental pollution by empowering industrial structure optimization and enhancing resource utilization efficiency;(3)heterogeneity tests reveal that the impact of digital economic development on environmental pollution control is most significant in the eastern region,but its role in improving environmental governance in the central and western regions is continuously strengthening.In order to enhance the role of digital economic development in environmental pollution control,this paper proposes suggestions such as improving digital infrastructure,expanding the application of digital technology scenarios,and deepening regional cooperation.
