Adsorption properties of methylene blue by surface functionalized magnetic biochar with sodium alginate
Sodium alginate-modified magnetic biochar(Fe3O4@SBC-SA)was prepared from sodium alginate(SA)surface modified magnetic biochar(SBC)to improve the adsorption capacity of biochar for methylene blue(MB).The apparent mor-phology and groups of the adsorbents were characterized, and the kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic studies were used to discuss the adsorption characteristics of methylene blue via Fe3O4@SBC-SA.The experimental results showed that Fe3O4 and SA were successfully loaded onto SBC via the modification process, the MB adsorption property of Fe3O4@SBC-SA was better than SBC,the optimum adsorption pH was 7.0,and the adsorption equilibrium was reached at 120 min.The model fitting analysis of the experimental results showed that the adsorption process of methylene blue by Fe3O4@SBC-SA was more consistent with the Langmuir model and the quasi-second-order adsorption kinetic equations. The adsorption pro-cess was mainly monolayer adsorption and chemical adsorption, and the saturated adsorption capacity reached 172.41 mg/g.Fe3O4@SBC-SA adsorption mechanism of methylene blue was mainly through the electrostatic attraction between the car-boxyl group and methylene blue. This study had certain practical significance for Fe3O4@SBC-SA adsorption treatment of methylene blue in wastewater.
