Discussion about initial melting point test of materials by expansion method
When the material undergoes a first-order phase transition,it will be accompanied by the simultaneous mutations in heat and volume. At present,DSC/DTA method is mainly used to test the melting point of materials based on heat chan-ges,but there are some limitations in DSC/DTA test method for active materials or materials with a melting point higher than the melting point of the crucible.Based on the volume change of material in the first-order phase transition, the expan-sion method was used to preliminarily study the melting point of the material.Pure metal, infinite solution alloy, single crystal and other materials were tested by expansion method, and the results were compared with DSC/DTA test method. It was found that the data were in good agreement. The results showed that the expansion method could accurately test the ini-tial melting point of the material, which was a useful supplement to the existing melting point test method.
