Effect analysis of hot isostatic pressing on microstructure and properties of ZTA15 titanium alloy
The microstructure evolution law of ZTA15 titanium alloy before and after hot isostatic pressing(HIP)treatment as well as its influence on mechanical and electrochemical properties were investigated by means of optical microscope(OM),scanning electron microscope(SEM),electrochemical workstation, and electronic universal testing machine. The results showed that the macroscopic microstructure of ZTA15 at casting condition consisted of coarse initial β grains, and the microstructure was a typical Widmannstatten and net-basket structure. After high-temperature and high-pressure HIP treatment, however, the creep and plastic deformation occurred in ZTA15 titanium alloy, leading to the healing of internal defects. The microstructure became more uniform compared to the casting condition. Moreover, both α and β phases grew up.The yield strength and tensile strength of the material were slightly reduced, but the corrosion resistance was improved. In addition, the elongation and section shrinkage were significantly increased.
