Using panel data from 2005 to 2020,this paper conducts an empirical study on the influencing factors and investment potential of China's direct investment in countries along"the Belt and Road".The research finds that,at the national level,China's per capita income level,technological innovation level,the size of the host country's labor force,whether there is a common border with China,the index of economic freedom,bilateral trade connection degree,whether the bilateral investment protection agreement has been signed and entered into force with China,and the free trade agreement signed with China have a positive role in promoting China's investment in the countries along"the Belt and Road".China's direct investment in countries along"the Belt and Road"is in a state of"under-investment",and the investment potential of different countries is quite different.
