Clinical application and efficacy evaluation of psychodynamic group psychotherapy in social anxiety disorder in college students
Objective:To compare the efficacy of psychodynamic group therapy and drug therapy on social anxiety disorder(SAD)of college students, and to evaluate the value of clinical application of psychodynamic group therapy in SAD in college students. Methods:Eighty patients with SAD were recruited from a university in Wuhu from June 2020 to December 2021,and randomized to 3 groups.Students in the psychodynamic group(n=27)underwent psychodynamic group therapy once a week for 10 sessions in total.Twenty-five patients were included in the medication group, and treated with anti-anxiety drugs for 10 weeks, yet the participants in the control group(n=28)were not given any intervention during the study. The groups were tested with questionnaires using the Social Anxiety Scale(LSAS),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS)before and after the intervention for all participants, and the differences in efficacy were compared among the 3 groups. Results:The LSAS scores were significantly lower, yet SSRS scores were notably higher in the female patients in psychodynamic group and medication group compared to pre-treatment(both P<0.05).The scores on LSAS and HAMA after treatment were decreased in the females in psychodynamic group, which was significantly lower than both the medication group and the control group(P<O.05),whereas the scoring on SSRS was markedly higher in psychodynamic group than in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Psychodynamic group therapy can effectively alleviate the social anxiety degree of female college students with SAD,and may be an important tool to treat SAD.
