Defoaming effect of improved simethicone usage in painless colonoscopy
Objective:To observe the defoaming effect of improved simethicone usage in painless colonoscopy. Methods:Eighty patients undergoing painless colonoscopy were randomly divided into oral administration group(OA group)or improved administration group(IA group). Before examination, patients in OA group and IA group took 800 mg and 400 mg of simethicone orally respectively.During examination, those in IA group received another 400 mg of simethicone through biopsy channel for rinse as needed. Two groups were compared regarding satisfaction rate of defoaming in colon, quality of intestinal preparation, duration of examination and patient's satisfaction rate after examination. Results:The satisfaction rate of colon defoaming in IA group was higher than that in OA group(97.5%vs.80.0%,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in quality of intestinal preparation between IA and OA groups(82.5%vs.87.5%,P>0.05).The duration of examination in IA group was shorter than that in OA group[(11.4±1.6)min vs.(12.1±1.5)min,P<0.05].There was no significant difference in patient's satisfaction rate after examination between IA and OA groups(92.5%vs.90%,P>0.05).Conclusion:It is safe and effective to remove the foam in colon in patients by oral use half dose of simethicone before examination, and another half dose is administered through biopsy channel for rinsing the colon during examination. The defoaming effect of improved simethicone usage is better than that of traditional oral administration and it can also shorten the duration of examination.
