Treatment outcomes of medication therapy and balloon eustachian tuboplasty plus tympanostomy tube insertion for chronic secretory otitis media
Objective:To compare the clinical efficacy of medication therapy and balloon eustachian tuboplasty plus tympanostomy tube insertion for chronic secretory otitis media. Methods:Sixty patients with chronic secretory otitis media treated in our hospital were included between November 2019 and March 2023 and divided into observational group and control group,in which patients received balloon eustachian tuboplasty(BET)plus tympanostomy tube insertion(TTI)and medication therapy respectively(both n=30).The pure tone audiometry(PTA),air-bone gap(ABG),and 7-item Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire(ETDQ-7)scores were recorded in both groups. Results:The overall effective rate in the observational group was higher than that in the control group(100.00%vs.70.00%,P<0.01).The PTA,ABG and ETDQ-7 scores in both groups decreased sequentially before treatment,at 1 and 3 months after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion:The clinical efficacy of BET plus TTI is favorable in the treatment of chronic secretory otitis media and it is worthy of clinical recommendation.
