Clinical study on acupuncture plus Taohe Chengqi decoction in improving upper limb function in stroke patients with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome
Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus Taohe Chengqi decoction in treating upper limb dysfunction in acute ischemic stroke(AIS)patients with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. Methods:One hundred and ten AIS patients with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome admitted to our hospital were included between June 2020 and May 2022,and were randomly divided into observational group and control group(respectively treated by acupuncture plus Taohe Chengqi decoction and acupuncture for 21 days, both n=55).Acomparison wasmadebetween twogroups of patients regarding their Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA)scores,FTHUE-HK scores, modified Barthel index(MBI)scores,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)symptom scores, and blood viscosity-related indicators before treatment,on day 21 of treatment, and on day 90 post-treatment.The incidence of adverse events during the treatment was recorded. Results:In the observational group and control group,54 and 52 patients were included in the study respectively.Compared with the control group, patients in the observational group had increased FMA,FTHUE-HK and MBI scores on day 21 of treatment and on day90 post-treatment,while TCM symptom total scores and levels of hematocrit(HCT),fibrinogen(FIB)and D-Dimer decreased(all P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between two groups of patients during treatment(3.7%vs.1.9%,P>0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture plus Taohe Chengqi decoction can significantly improve the upper limb motor function of AIS patients with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, reduce TCM symptom scores, and improve their self-care ability. The primary mechanism may be related to the reduction of the hypercoagulable state in patients.
