Investigation on the disease uncertainty and its relationship with coping styles and health literacy in patients with stroke undergoing interventional therapy
Objective:To investigate the disease uncertainty in patients with stroke undergoing interventional therapy, and to analyze its relationship with coping styles and health literacy in this group of patients. Methods:A survey was conducted in 308 patients with stroke undergone interventional therapy between March 2020 and June 2023 using General Information Questionnaire,Mishel Disease Uncertainty Scale,Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ)and Health Literacy Survey Scale for their health literacy on chronic diseases, and the correlation between disease uncertainty and coping styles and health literacy were analyzed. Results:The total score of disease uncertainty was(77.29±9.06)points in the patients with stroke undergoing interventional therapy, and the disease uncertainty remained at a medium level. The component scoring of MCMQ on confrontation, avoidance and resignation as well as total health literacy was(17.57±3.49)points,(16.81±3.15)points,(12.07±2.82)points and(80.56±10.47)points,respectively.The difference was significant in the total score of disease uncertainty among patients with different education levels, monthly household income per person and disease awareness(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that the total score and scoring on the individual component on the disease uncertainty were positively correlated with MCMQ avoidance score and resignation score(P<0.05),yet negatively with MCMQ confrontation score and scoring on individual dimensions of health literacy and total score of health literacy(P<0.05).The increases of education level, medical coping style-confrontation score and total score of health literacy were the negative factors affecting disease uncertainty(P<0.05),whereas decreases of disease awareness of disease, and the increases of medical coping style-avoidance score and medical coping style-resignation score were the positive factors affecting the disease uncertainty(P<0.05).Conclusion:The disease uncertainty in patients with stroke undergoing interventional therapy remains at a medium level, and appears stronger in patients with avoidance, resignation and low health literacy.
