Objective To investigate the status of professional identity of students majoring in public health and preventive medicine,and to explore the factors affecting their professional identity and its enhancement strategies.Methods A combination of questionnaires and qualitative interviews was used to identify the status of students'professional identity in public health and preven-tive medicine at Jinzhou Medical University and other colleges.Results The mean score of the Professional Identity Scale for Colle-gians public health and preventive medicine was(3.54±0.62)score,and the differences in professional identity among students in different grades(F=5.418,P<0.001)and academic performance(F=5.430,P=0.005)were statistically significant.The results of the qualitative interviews showed that the course,internship opportunities,employment prospects and career direction and social accep-tance are all factors affecting the sense of professional identity.Conclusion Current academic performance,grade,course set and arrangement,matching internship opportunities,social acceptance,employment prospect and employment direction may be the influ-encing factors of students'professional identity.Measures should be taken at the national,social,school and student levels to enhance students'professional identity.
