Investigation on the Knowledge,Belief and Practice of Rational Medication among Chronic Disease Patients in Elderly Care Institutions and Analysis on Influencing Factors
Objective To learn the status of knowledge,belief,and practice of rational medication among chronic disease patients in elderly care institutions,and provide reference for rational medication among chronic disease patients in elderly care institutions.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on chronic disease patients in three medical and elderly care institutions in Xi'an City from July to October 2023.Independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used to test the differences in the level of knowledge,belief,and behavior of rational medication among general demographic data.Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors affecting the level of knowledge,belief,and behavior of rational medication.Results 298 valid question-naires were collected.The total score of the Medication Knowledge,Belief,and Practice Assessment Questionnaire for elderly chronic disease patients is(28.77±13.66)score.The scores for medication knowledge,medication belief,and medication behavior dimensi-ons are(16.65±10.54)score,(3.42±2.14)score,and(8.69±3.33)score,respectively,with scoring rates of 46.3%,48.9%,and 72.4%,respectively.The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that education,occupation before retirement,and self-care ability were the influencing factors of medication knowledge,whether to apply for a chronic disease clinic or not and self-care a-bility were the influencing factors of medication beliefs,and occupation before retirement and self-care ability were the influencing factors of medication behavior.Conclusion The level of knowledge,belief,and practice of rational medication among chronic dis-ease patients in elderly care institutions in Xi'an City still needs to be improved.Elderly care institutions should take targeted mea-sures to strengthen rational medication education and improve the level of rational medication among chronic disease patients.
