Qualitative Study on Cardiac Surgery Specialist Nurses'Role and Factors of Core Competencies Characteristics
Objective To explore cardiac surgery specialist nurses'role and factors of core competencies characteristics in China,and provide reference for the training of cardiac surgery specialist nurses.Methods A qualitative study method was used to conduct semi-structured interviews with 15 medical staffs engaged in cardiac surgery.The interview data was analyzed and summarized with Colaizzi analysis method to refine themes.Results Cardiac surgery specialist nurses mainly play five roles,namely clinical practi-tioners,educational consultants,management decision-makers,research reformers,and professional facilitators.They need to possess seven core competencies,namely cardiac surgery professional practice ability,communication and coordination ability,critical thinking ability,professional management ability,professional development ability,professional ethics,and personal traits.Conclu-sion Cardiac surgery specialist nurses play multiple roles and should strengthen the cultivation of their core competencies to meet the needs of the development of cardiac surgery specialist nursing.
