Survey on Employment of the First Rural Demand-oriented Medical Students in Chongqing City after the Expiration of Contract Period
Objective To learn the employment and influencing factors of the first rural demand-oriented medical students(hereinafter referred to as demand-oriented medical students)in Chongqing City after the expiration of their contract period,and to propose corresponding strategies and suggestions for better training and utilization of demand-oriented medical students.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on the first demand-oriented medical students who completed the"5+3"year training in Chongqing City in Grade 2010 and have been working at the grassroots institute for 3 years,completed the contract period.Results 31(32.63%)demand-oriented medical students continued to work in grassroots institute after the expiration of their contract period.The salary and benefits,work environment,promotion opportunities,and emphasis on employees of the demand-oriented units were the main factors affecting their stay in grassroots institutes(P<0.05).Conclusion The number of demand-oriented medical students in Chongqing City who continue to serve in grassroots institutes after the expiration of their contract period is relatively low.It is sug-gested to increase the salary and benefits of demand-oriented medical students in grassroots institutions,attach importance to their career development,improve the management system of grassroots institutions,and introduce beneficial policies that favor demand-oriented medical students,in order to enhance their work enthusiasm and professional identity,and retain talents for the grassroots in-dustry.
