Phase Ⅱ Survey Report of Northwest Continental Slope No.1 and No.2 Shipwrecks in the South China Sea
From September to October 2023,the National Center for Archaeology organized the second phase of a joint Archaeological survey of Northwest Continental Slope No.1 and No.2 shipwrecks of the South China Sea.The survey primarily achieved five tasks:first,recycled and replaced the underwater beacon of the long baseline positioning system;second,completed the photo stitching and 3D laser scanning data collection to generate orthoimages of the sites;third,formed a preliminary understanding of the hull of No.1 shipwreck that exposed on the seabed;forth,collected superficial cultural relics of the two shipwrecks in accordance with different areas and artifact types,including 308 pieces(sets)of ceramics and wooden logs;fifth,conducted targeted exploration,induction,and summary of technical specifications,strategic requirements,and work processes for deep-sea archaeological surveys.This archaeological survey provides new data for in-depth studies of hulls,cargos,and loading methods of the two shipwrecks;it also places great significance on further deep-sea archaeological work in China.
