Excavation of Xiaobeishan Site of the Lower Xiajiadian Culture in Jianping,Liaoning
The Xiaobeishan Site is located on the northern slope of Group Four of Zhangfudian Village,Hongshan Street,Jianping County,Chaoyang City,Liaoning Province.From July to August 2022,the Research Center for Chinese Frontier Archaeology of Jilin University and others conducted a joint excavation of the site,covering an area of 340 sq.m.The project discovered 2 house foundations,36 ash pits,and 1 ash trench equivalent to the Lower Xiajiadian Culture;unearthed artifacts include pottery,jade and stone wares,and bone objects,also found considerable furnace wall fragments and copper slags from an accumulation layer of copper smelting remains.The excavation provides new data and evidence to help confirm the copper smelting remains of the Lower Xiajiadian Culture,as well as helping investigate the early copper smelting technology and its origin and development in the western Liaoning region.
