Study on Sources of Mineral Turquoise Unearthed from the Longgang Temple Site in Nanzheng,Shaanxi
The Longgang Temple Site in Nanzheng,Shaanxi province, was excavated in the 1980s,where the most turquoise objects belonging to the Banpo Type of the Yangshao Culture were discovered. It is on the upper reaches of the Han River, holding a location advantage to culturally connect the north and the south.Turquoise is an ideal indicator for studying transregional cultural communication as a natural mineral with limited sources.Through nondestructive testing, principal component analysis, and trace element analysis,it can be known that there are at least two sources of Longgang Temple's turquoise objects:one is the south mineral belt of turquoise represented by Zhushan, another is the mine group of turquoise represented by Laziya in Luonan. The discovery offered new clues and perspectives for investigating the customs of using and wearing these turquoise objects as well as their production and circulation;it also opened up the horizon in understanding the interactive relationship between the Han River Basin and surrounding areas during the Yangshao Culture.
