Yuancun Site,dating back to Neolithic Age,Xia downwards Shang Dynasties is one of the largest settlement sites discovered in Salt Lake area,Yuncheng Basin so far.The origination and development of this settlement is closely related to the Salt Lake near by.Therefore,it is an important stronghold of the prehistoric inhabitants to utilize and manage the natural resources of the Salt Lake.Since 2022,the archaeologists from Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology have investigated and explored this prehistoric site and discovered a moat-surrounded settlement from the middle phase of Yangshao culture.These discoveries provided new materials for studying the inhabitants'livelihood near the Salt Lake and settlement structure in Yuncheng basin during Yangshao period.
