Naming of a site is the initial step in archaeological practice,since it is a life-long event related to that site.The naming of Paleolithic archaeological sites in China has strong characteristics of its own.This article aims to summarize the existing naming methods for Paleolithic sites over the past century and point out their problems via discussing the advantages and disadvantages of various naming methods.It also further clarifies the naming rules of"the smallest administrative region name or natural place name"formulated in accordance with the"Third National Cultural Relics Census".The present research suggests that,the naming based on"village name or small place name",supplemented by"typical site + numerical number + location",makes naming method with the most promotional significance.
