The Sichuan Basin is in the southwest of China with a relatively closed geographical environment,the historical and cultural development of which has an obviously local tradition for a long time.Reference to current archaeological discovery,copious amounts of Song dynasty tombs have been excavated from the Sichuan Basin.Those tombs discovered at circumjacent hilly land are mostly stone tombs.which commonly had exquisite carved structures imitated from wooden buildings and their forms and styles developed with times.This paper mainly studied on the structure and date of these ancient tombs in Sichuan-Chongqing region.By means of typology and comparison,the development trends and changes of these Song tombs had been clarified and their dates could be divided into four period:Pre-Qiandao(before 1173),Chunxi Reign(1174-1189),from Shaoxi to Jiading(1190-1224),after Jiading(after 1224).Particularly,the third period could be separated by Qingyuan(1192-1200)into two sections.Given the previous study,this paper aims to solve the questions of structures and dates of these stone tombs in Sichuan-Chongqing region.In addition,it enriched the study materials of Song architectures by comparing the features,differences and developments with the wooden architecture and imitated wooden buildings overground in this regions and revealed the great value of these ancient stone tombs on study of architectural history as well.
