The clan in the Shang and Zhou can be interpreted as"Wu(五)".During the late Shang, the"Wu(五)"Clan had already lived in southern Shanxi.Thereafter,a branch of them emmigrated to Guanzhong(关中).During the Western Zhou, the"Wu(五)"Clan in southern Shanxi was named"Shu((覞))",which belonged to the Ji(姑)family and was likely a vassal of the Jin state. It was similar with Peng(倗)and Ba(霸)who are from the"Huaixing Jiuzong(怀姓九宗)".The bronze objects made by the"Wu(五)"Clan mostly recorded marriage relations, and it also used as surname, similar with the Zhou(周)people, but different from the clans from the core area of the Shang, which is likely related to the special position of Southern Shanxi between the Shang and Zhou.
