Houzhai cemetery is located at Shuozhou in the southwest of Datong Basin,where could directly arrive Ningwu through Yangfangkou in the south and enter into Inner Mongolia through Shahukou,Youyu in the north.So It is a key area the cultures melting between three Jin and the north ethnic groups along the Great Wall during the Eastern Zhou.The tombs at this cemetery were from late Spring and Autumn period to mid warring states period.Their cultural appearances are quite complicated because various ethnic groups used to live nearby from the evidence of pottery groups,such as pottery urns with handle and long T-shaped bone objects with strong local feature,Li vessel and jar similar with those at Lvliang mountain area,and Ding,Dou,Hu,etc.with typical features of Zhao state.Therefore,this cemetery provides many valuable materials for study the cultures of the Loufan,Zhao and Bai-di groups during the Eastern Zhou.
