Counter-drone Radar Based on Radar Automatic Target Recognition Technology
To address the challenges of"Low,Slow,Small"(LSS)drone threats,the critical role of counter-drone radar is increasingly evident.Within the technology framework of Countering-Unmanned Aerial Systems(C-UAS),counter-drone radar,as the core sensor of C-UAS,plays a crucial role in tasks such as detection and guidance.However,despite its obvious importance,counter-drone radar still faces conceptual uncertainties,such as how to define LSS drone targets and why many counter-drone radars fail to detect drones.The application of radar Automatic Target Recognition(ATR)technology in the field of counter-drone radar is explored,and key issues are identified from the perspectives of target characteristics and detection techniques.The independent processes of radar detection are emphasized,which are categorized into"signal detection"and"target recognition".It is highlighted that the primary detection targets of counter-drone radar are LSS drones.The ATR performance levels are clearly defined,encompassing"Detection","Classification","Identification",and"Description".The integration of ATR functionality significantly enhances drone detection range and identification capabilities,ultimately driving the performance upgrade of counter-drone radar systems.
