Advancements in RIS Channel Measurement and Modeling for 6 G
Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface(RIS)technology is considered a promising application in 6G.The research on RIS channels is crucial for technological innovation and performance evaluation of RIS assisted communication systems. This article reviews the research progress in measurement and modeling of RIS channels. We summarized two channel measurement methods, frequency do-main measurement based on Vector Network Analyzer(VNA)and time-domain measurement based on sliding correlation. We intro-duced a time-domain RIS channel measurement platform and summarized current measurement activities.Three characteristics of element reflection coefficient, scattering pattern, and cascaded path loss in RIS channels are analyzed.A summary of RIS channel model-ing methods, including statistical modeling, deterministic modeling, and hybrid modeling,is presented. An extended RIS channel modeling method based on existing 5G standard's 3D Geometric-Based Stochastic Model(GBSM)is proposed,as well as an RIS chan-nel simulation platform based on this method. Finally, challenges and future research directions faced by RIS channel measurement and modeling research were discussed.
