The vulnerability of financial institutions is a characteristic that reflects the ability of financial institutions to control and manage risks and an inherent attribute of financial institutions in terms of sound operation, which may be significantly affected by the development of the digital economy.Based on the panel data of commercial banks from 2013 to 2022,the vulnerability of commercial banks in China is measured by using principal component analysis and factor analysis, and the two-way fixed effect model and IV-LIML method are used to explore the impact of the development of digital economy on the vulnerability of financial institutions. It is found that improving the level of digital economy development is conducive to reducing the vulnerability of financial institutions in China. The results of the heterogeneity analysis show that improving the level of digital economy development has a greater impact on the vulnerability of financial institutions in the non-eastern regions of China and small financial institutions in terms of assets. It is suggested that China's financial institutions should follow the development trend of the digital economy, use digital technology to diversify business, conduct data analysis and prediction, innovate risk management tools, strengthen the security construction of internal information systems, increase investment in digital human capital, and pay close attention to changes in regulatory requirements.
