Large language models have brought great challenges and significant opportunities to the development of foreign language discipline.This paper,after introducing the definitions and features of large language models,analyzes the major issues of decreased talents demand,teacher identity and role change,and program arrangement faced by foreign language discipline in the context of large language models.To address these issues,foreign language discipline should facilitate educational informationization,align programs and curricula with the development of large language models,apply large language models to foreign language teaching and research,thereby achieving the sustainable development of the discipline.
