Despite the important role of word lists in English teaching and testing,research on them has not received due attention from Chinese domestic scholars.This paper provides an overview of the major types of English word lists and the current state of word list development studies in the global context of EFL education,and delves into the key issues in the development process,namely the counting units,word selection criteria,word grading,and word list evaluation.Based on the discussions,the future trends of English word list research are explored,in the hope of providing reference for English teaching and testing.
