From the perspective of the syntax-pragmatics interface, this study examines native-like and non-native-like features as well as influencing factors in the acquisition of preferred argument structures by Chinese English learners. The results are as follows:(1)learners achieve a native-like level in acquiring syntactic features of argument structures, yet they still exhibit non-native-like features such as divergence, optionality, and indeterminacy.(2)In terms of comprehension of preferred argument structures, all learner groups are able to judge the appropriateness of the structures in context, but only the advanced group reaches a native-like level;in production of preferred argument structures, all learner groups adhere to the constraints of the structures, but they do not fully reach a native-like level.(3)Non-native-like features of learners are mainly influenced by factors including the strength of form-meaning associations, language transfer and context. The study validates the Preferred Argument Structure Hypothesis and the Interface Hypothesis, and could provide valuable insights into teaching and learning of preferred argument structures.
