摘要
跨文化交际教材是学生系统学习跨文化理论、间接接触不同文化、参照理解自身文化的重要媒介.本研究采用内容分析法,由三位编码员共同对八本西方出版的主流跨文化交际教材进行三级主题编码,分析其中的中华文化呈现情况,发现:(1)此类教材呈现的中华文化内容包罗万象,既有传统文化也有现代文化,涵盖了文化产品、实践、观念、个体与社群以及地域五大类别;(2)通常在正文中对跨文化理论概念举例说明时出现,或作为案例人物、事件的背景出现;(3)若与其他文化同时出现,多作为典型的东方文化,与西方文化相对应;(4)教材中既有对中华文化偏静态、同质化、去语境等过度简化的本质主义取向式理解,也有更为动态、杂糅和情境化的复杂理解.研究探讨了跨文化交际的学科特点与其教材文化呈现内容和形式之间的关系,为本土跨文化交际教材建设提供实证参考和建议.
Abstract
Intercultural communication textbooks are an important medium for students to systematically learn intercultural theories,indirectly come into contact with different cultures,and understand their own cultures in comparative contexts.This study employs the content analysis method,in which three coders jointly conducted three-level thematic coding of eight mainstream intercultural communication textbooks published in the West.By analysing the presentation of Chinese culture therein,the study found that:(1)Chinese culture presented in these textbooks is all-encompassing,including both traditional and modern elements,and covering five categories:cultural products,practices,perspectives,people and communities,and places;(2)it usually appears in the text to illustrate one aspect of a cross-cultural theoretical concept or as the background of cases;(3)if it appears together with other cultures,it mostly serves as the exemplary Eastern culture,the opposite of Western culture;(4)presentation of Chinese culture can be either static,homogenised,decontextualised,and oversimplified,or dynamic,hybrid,complex and contextualised.The study discusses the characteristics of intercultural communication as a field of study and its relation to the cultural representation of its textbook,and provides empirical references for the construction of local intercultural communication textbooks.
