This paper introduces the development background,process,and characteristics of Professional Competency Standards for University Foreign Language Teachers.These standards aim to provide comprehensive,scientific,and systematic guidance for the professional development of foreign language teachers in higher education institutions.Through a comparative analysis of relevant research and practices both domestically and internationally,we delve into the connotations and distinguishing features of professional competency of university foreign language teachers,and propose the theoretical basis for the development of these standards.During the development process,we employed a variety of methods,including literature review,empirical research,and expert consultation,to ensure the scientific validity and practical applicability of the standards.The formulation of these standards integrates theoretical achievements with practical needs and introduces a graded evaluation tool,aiming to achieve higher levels of practicality and innovation.
