Active compounds from Pinellia ternata were extracted through different extraction phases and their insecticidal activity against the larvae of Culex pipiens pallens was determined using the immersion method with five solvents:petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate,n-butyl alcohol, and water. Results showed that the crude extracts of Pinellia ternata have strong insecticidal activity. When treated with petroleum ether and chloroform solvent extractions at 0.5 mg·mL-1 for 24 hours, the corrected mortalities for both treatments reached more than 50%.In the indoor toxicity measurement experiments, when the insect was treated with petroleum ether and chloroform extractions LC50 were 0.21 and 0.31 mg·mL-1,respectively.The results provide a reference for the comprehensive utilization of new plant-derived pesticides.
