On Stateness of the Translation of Legal Literature:Rethinking Shapiro's English Translation of Shuihu Zhuan
The objects of state translation, with multi-dimensional textual features and discourse functions, tend to be translated by the state and for the state. The translation of legal literature, for instance, should be conducted and supervised by certain institutions as state engineering. This paper, focusing on legal literature as the objects, intends to clarify the translator group and collabora-tive mechanism of state translation of legal literature based on the theory of the properness of translators, and then takes Shapiro's English translation of Shuihu Zhuan as a case to elucidate the stateness of the translation in terms of the properness of translators and institutionalization of the translation event. The translation of legal literature is anchored in historical materials and oriented towards the present, conducive to constructing original images and telling traditional stories concerning rule of law.
