A Visualized Analysis of Contemporary Translation Studies on Cultural Terms
As linguistic crystallizations of local knowledge and culture,cultural terms and cultural terminology have received much attention in translation practice and theory,both at home and abroad.According to statistics,contemporary studies in cultural term translation started in 1992 and have made great progress after 30 years of development.At the same time,it should be noted that the problem do-main and research methodology of cultural term translation still need to be clarified.With the help of Citespace,this paper investigates the status quo of domestic and international research on cultural term translation over the past 30 years.The number of publications,literature sources and keyword mapping are provided as evidence.It is found that the overall trend of related research is on the rise.While international studies are more"paradigm-driven"and"scenario-based",domestic studies tend to be"demand-driven"and"category-based".This paper proposes that a historical perspective needs to be introduced into the sphere of cultural term translation studies.Specifically,studies on the history of cultural term translation in China would help to reveal theoretically the complex functions and features of Chinese cultural terms under cross-cultural circumstances.This practice of theorization is prerequisite for the systematic development of the methodology for the demand-driven translation of Chinese cultural terms at contemporary times.
