The Argument Representation of Transitive Psych Verbs by Chinese English Learners:A Usage-Based Theory Perspective
This study examines how Chinese EFL learners process the English transitive psych verbs in order to illuminate how the fac-tors.like I.1 transfer, input frequency, form and function etc.,affect the argument realization and representation from the per-spective of Usage-Based theory. The self-paced reading tasks reveal that the mechanism of argument realization and representation of both experiencer-subject verbs and experiencer-object verbs is not only affected by the L1 transfer, but also by the formal and functional aspects of the construction.Furthermore,it is found that the input frequency effect is relatively weak.Based on those findings, more investigations are conducted about the relationship between the constructions of experiencer-subject verbs and that of experiencer-object verbs, which specify the different domain of a same psychological macro-event schema denoting by the no-tion of construal.
