A Conceptual Framework of Digital Literacy for Foreign Language Majors in China
It is widely acknowledged that foreign language majors should be equipped with the ability to apply information technology in response to inherent requirements of New Liberal Arts and the practical needs for cultivating international interdisciplinary talents. And now it is a matter of urgency to construct a conceptual framework of digital literacy for foreign language majors in China.Considering characteristics of foreign language undergraduate programs, this paper proposes a conceptual framework of the digital literacy for foreign language majors consisting of three dimensions of knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The framework is composed of 7 primary indicators and 24 secondary indicators. Each of the 24 secondary indicators subsumes a set of illustrative descriptors of progressive higher levels, leading to a closed-loop system consisting of stages for setting goals, selecting indicators,implemen-ting the framework, and providing feedback. The paper undertakes to help promote the construction of a new model of education and talent cultivation for undergraduate foreign language majors with Chinese characteristics and to provide reference and guide-lines for the construction of digital literacy frameworks for other undergraduate majors.
