It has been more than two hundred years since Xi You Ji was first introduced in the English world.Among so many English translations,Anthony C.Yu's version(Yu 1977,1978,1980)is distinctive for its academic features. This paper first examines the historical context of its publication, and then explores the influence of the translator's academic research and translation con-cept on the translation activities of this novel. It is found that the translator's specific translation strategies not only show his in-sightful research achievements, but also convey the translator's ideal of"translatability".The perfect integration makes this trans-lation an academic model, which provides a solid foundation for reading and studying this masterpiece in the English world.
