On Translators'In-coming Translation Behaviours in English Translation of Sanguoyanyi
Throughout the 200-year history of English translations of Sanguoyanyi,foreign translators have accounted for nearly 80%of the total number of translators.Among 26 foreign translators,the majority are of English and American nationalities,with German translators also included,exhibiting shared features in their translation behaviours.This article analyzes both internal and external factors and examines text and paratext of English translation of Sanguoyanyi.It reveals three major features shown by foreign translators,namely,reader acceptance-centred,literary scenes-oriented,and interaction between translation and research-em-phasized.These translators,who are also scholars specializing in Sanguoyanyi,exhibit a deep appreciation and respect for tradi-tional Chinese culture.Their translation and analysis of the text are characterized by meticulous and rigorous methods.Exploring translation behaviours of foreign translators serves to support the ongoing translation and widespread dissemination of Sanguoyanyi in the English-speaking world.
