摘要
斯图尔特·霍尔的"表征"理论以索绪尔结构主义语言学为基础,探究语言哲学在文化层面的阐释可能与意义建构,并以此作为丰富、完善"文化表征"概念内涵与外延的理论资源,从而深入解析人在思考与实践活动中,由语言逻辑与想象思维共同作用而形成的文化表征意涵.霍尔认同马克思主义历史观,运用葛兰西文化领导权、福柯权力话语等现代理论,揭示西方现代思维体系中文化表征背后隐含的多重话语权力对语言能指与所指意义的争夺.在语言哲学的文化阐释中,霍尔拆解了西方文化霸权在语言所指能力的内在话语权力结构,并在语言的能指方面提出构筑文化循环、重塑文化身份、重建文化认同等方式,为第三世界国家提供建构自身文化话语权的方式和途径.
Abstract
Based on Saussure's structuralist linguistics,Stuart Hall's theory of"representation"explores the philosophy of language at the cultural level,particularly its possibility of interpretation and its sense making.The efforts contribute to theoretical resources,which enrich and improve the connotation and extension of"cultural representation",and an in-depth analysis of the meaning of cultural representation formed by the joint action of linguistic logic and imaginative thinking in people's thinking and practical ac-tivities.Hall agrees with the Marxist's view of history and uses modem theories such as Gramsci's Cultural Leadership and Foucault's Power Discourse to reveal that the multiple discourse powers,hidden behind the cultural representation in modern Western thinking system,contend with the signifier and the signified of language.In the cultural interpretation of philosophy of language,Hall dismantles the internal structure of discourse power of Western cultural hegemony in the scope of language signi-fiers and proposes ways to construct the circle of culture,reshape cultural identities,and reconstruct cultural identification in terms of language signifiers,so that third world countries are provided with ways and means to construct their own cultural dis-course.Hall's representation theory possesses profound theoretical significance and substantial practical implications.It has the potential to instill a heightened sense of cultural identity and an appreciation for historical heritage among Third World countries.As they develop their political discourse systems,the theory can play a pivotal role in bolstering their ideological defenses against the assimilation pressures exerted by dominant Western cultures.
