The implementation of the national strategy of National Fitness requires attention not only to the health effects of residents'participation in physical exercise,but also to the subjective well-being effects of residents'participation in physical exercise.In this article,we selected depression index from the dimension of reducing negative emotional experience and happiness,life satisfaction,and job satisfaction from the dimension of increasing positive feelings and evaluations as measures of residents'subjective well-being,and used data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)to examine the impact and mechanism of the effect of participation in physical exercise on participants'subjective well-being.The results showed that participation in physical exercise had subjective well-being effect,significantly reducing the depression index of participants and improving the happiness,life satisfaction and job satisfaction of participants.In terms of impact mechanisms,the accumulation of health capital and social capital is an important mechanism of action by which participation in physical exercise improves the subjective well-being of participants,i.e.,participation in physical exercise improves the subjective well-being of participants by improving self-assessed health and physical health,as well as by expanding social networks,increasing social trust and raising social prestige.In terms of heterogeneous effects,participation in physical exercise had a more pronounced role in lowering the inhibition index for female,urban,elderly,and relatively higher-income participants,and a more pronounced role in increasing well-being,life satisfaction,and job satisfaction for elderly participants,and a more pronounced role in increasing life satisfaction and job satisfaction for female participants.
