Features and structures of mental lexicon representation are fundamental in psycholinguistics. However, previous relevant investigations into third language acquisition have wide disparities in their results, and seldom have they involved Chi-nese as the L3 of research participants.Besides, the explorations into how mental lexicon representation develops are far from sufficient. In light of the above, the research questions are the storage pattern of the conceptual representation, the strengths of the links between the conceptual representation and each of the lexical representations, and development characteristics of the conceptual representation along with L3 proficiency improvement. This research examines 72 Dutch-English-Chinese trilin-guals,conducts experiments that adopt the cross-linguistic unmasked semantic priming paradigm, and combines questionnaires and interviews,to sort out the dynamic and static features of L3 conceptual representation. The results show that the conceptu-al representations of the three languages are shared;L3 lexical items access the shared concept with a much weaker link than that between the concept and L1/L2 items;as L3 proficiency improves, this asymmetry gradually diminishes.
