This research employs the conceptual metaphor theory to examine the Chinese expression"A is the mother of B",exploring the cognitive schema behind this construction and the necessary conditions for its application.Through the analysis of article titles and metaphorical meanings related to"mother",we come to the following findings:1)these cognitive schemas come from people's life experiences and cognition of the mother-child relationship.These cognitive schemas can be classified into six types:birth schema,pregnancy schema,midwifery schema,parenting schema,sequential schema,and role model schema;and 2)three necessary conditions for applying the construct of"A is the mother of B"include:logical condition,A is a necessary condition for B;content condition,A contributes to the existence of B;emotional condition,based on logical condition and content condition,there is a sense of reverence or recognition towards event A.This study helps to clarify the cognitive tendencies of the Han ethnic group and delve deeper into the interaction between culture and metaphorical thinking.
